About
Beck Marlow is an Atlanta-based artist who explores common-yet-gruesome parts of everyday life. He has been drawing for many years, and recently decided to shift his focus towards painting; while most current works are made with acrylic paints, Marlow continues to experiment with different techniques and mediums like collage, pastels, charcoal, and recycled materials.
Find peace at the intersection of pain and acceptance.
For my whole life, I have struggled with severe OCD, as well as chronic illness and PTSD in my later years. Art has been a way for me to express pain that has gone unseen and unheard. Learning to become familiar with the grim has allowed me to accept my circumstances and future, and I have finally begun to feel at home within myself. I hope to help others achieve this same sense of peace within horror, and invite them to see themselves in the darker sides of life.
"Sit with your discomfort."
Above is a phrase has been littered throughout my adult life, touting itself as a way through pain. The brain needs to know that it is capable of self-soothing, and to do so it must withstand mental anguish, forging resilience over time. This mindset, although introduced through OCD treatment, has carried throughout many aspects of my life, offering hope even in the most desolate times. However, the thought of healing pain through even more of it can seem exhausting. Nevertheless, it is something I must fight for every single day, but I know that freedom is worth any struggle. I urge any and all of you to examine where your fears have limited your life, and to challenge them; courage is not the absence of fear, but the perseverance in spite of it.
